Presentation

Endurance riding is a long-distance race practiced on horseback and in nature, where the goal is to cover a long distance: from 20 km to 160 km in one day, or 2 x 100 km over two days. This timed race must be completed as quickly as possible while keeping the horse in perfect health. Mandatory veterinary checks are conducted regularly throughout the course. They ensure the horse's good health because if there is any doubt (fatigue, lameness, dehydration...), the horse is disqualified. Throughout the competition, the effort of the animal must therefore be controlled.

Endurance riding is one of the six equestrian disciplines worldwide approved by the International Equestrian Federation and is therefore present at the World Equestrian Games. There are several types of endurance events differentiated by the number of kilometers covered. The discipline is accessible to any rider and type of horse, but to compete in endurance at a certain level, it is preferable to choose a horse suitable for the discipline, such as the Arabian Thoroughbred, and to equip oneself with specific gear. Endurance also includes official international competitions, with events run at maximum distances.
